Pride in PlacePride in Place profiles

In September 2025, two areas in Southampton, Weston and Redbridge & Millbrook West were added to the Pride in Place programme (PiPP). Which will deliver investment in these communities over the next ten years. Funding from central government will enable local residents, businesses and community groups to invest in improvements to their local area. The programme is community-led and supported by the Government.

Weston Pride in Place profile

The Weston profile covers the MSOA area E02003580, located within Woolston ward in the south-east of the city, and has an estimated population of around 6,100 residents.

Among the key challenges for the area are:

  • High child poverty
  • Childhood obesity
  • School absence
  • Lower life expectancy, poor health and disability, increased hospital admissions
  • Deaths linked to behavioural risks such as smoking and alcohol
  • Poor mental health, and social isolation.
  • Higher food costs
  • More deprived (overall) with significant challenges in Education, Skills & Training and Crime and Income and Employment and Health & Disability domains
  • Areas with more social-rented housing
  • Higher crime rates including criminal damage and arson, other crime, weapons possession, and violence and sexual offences.

Redbridge & Millbrook West

The Redbridge & Millbrook West profile covers the MSOA area E02003560, located within Redbridge ward in the west of the city, and has an estimated population of around 7,300 residents.

Some of the key challenges for the area include:

  • High levels of child poverty including free school meals eligibility
  • Childhood obesity
  • Child hospital admissions specifically for the under 5s
  • Low life expectancy in adults
  • Poor health with high levels of disability
  • Hospital admissions and causes of death reflect poor outcomes across most areas, including high rates for all age cancer, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases as well as admissions for hip fracture (65+) and alcohol admissions
  • More deprived (overall) with significant challenges in most deprivation areas apart from Barriers to Housing & Services
  • Low numbers of qualifications with lower employment rates
  • More people out of work or who have never worked
  • Benefit reliance is higher among both working and non working adults
  • Higher levels of crimes such as criminal damage and arson, other crime, possession of weapons and violence and sexual offences

The government’s Pride in Place Programme will see up to £5 billion given to nearly 250 areas across the UK. Each area will receive up to £20 million of funding and support over the next 10 years to make long-term improvements that residents want.
